IPAF 1b Static Boom Training Course Overview

This course will teach operators how to use a static mounted boom, including pre-use inspections and safely working at height on a mobile elevated work platform of this type.

Who is IPAF 1b Training For?

This course is for anyone who operates a static trackmounted, vanmounted or trailermounted boom in the workplace.

There are no requirements for prior training or qualifications so anyone can attend this course, however any knowledge or experience of working with mobile elevating work platforms will be an advantage to passing this IPAF course.

IPAF 1b Course Content

IPAF classes are purposely kept small to ensure each candidate has plenty of hands-on training and the maximum possible face-to-face time with the instructor. Candidates will cover the following subjects during the day's training:

  • Introduction to IPAF and MEWPs
  • Pre-theory test
  • Legislations, regulations, standards and best practice
  • MEWP categories explained
  • Structural parts identified
  • Pre-use inspection/handover requirements
  • Safe operating methods and hazards to be observed
  • Post-theory test
  • Practical training and assessment on selected categories
  • Licence renewal & log books

IPAF Static Mounted Boom Course Duration

The IPAF 1b training course lasts for 1 day, with a minimum of 7 contact hours with the trainer and is a mix of classroom-based theory and practical training.

IPAF Certificate

Successful candidates will gain the IPAF Operator 1b category on their IPAF licence (PAL Card) which will be valid for 5 years.

Combined IPAF Categories

This course is commonly combined with other IPAF courses so that candidates can spend the day training and walk away with more than one category on their IPAF Powered Access Licence. Some popular combinations include:
