Overview of our CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 Course

This CISRS Scaffolding Part 1: Tube and Fitting or System Scaffold course will teach candidates how to safely erect, dismantle and amend basic scaffolding structures.

Who is Scaffolding Part 1 for?

The CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 training course is for scaffolding operatives who have passed a COTS course and held a CISRS Trainee Scaffolder Card or CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card for at least 6 months.

What you'll learn on this Scaffolding Part 1 Training course

Successful candidates will be able to safely erect, dismantle and alter scaffold structures as a member of a team and while under supervision.

Course content includes:

  • Safely erect in tube and fitting:
    • putlog scaffolds with returns
    • towers
    • birdcage scaffolds
  • Regulations governing the safe erection, inspection and dismantling of scaffolds (Guidance Note 4/SG4)
  • Laying out materials to erect the scaffold safely
  • Statutory regulations following the safe systems of work
  • Interpreting simple drawings
  • Understanding the basics of tie testing
  • Making alterations to scaffolds

CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 Assessment

Successful candidates will need to pass all of the following assessments:

  • Health & Safety Awareness Theory Test Paper
  • Preventing Falls in Scaffolding Industry SG4 Theory Test Paper
  • Scaffold Anchorage TG4 Theory Test Paper
  • Week 1 Mock Theory Test Paper
  • Mobile Aluminium Towers Theory Test Paper
  • End of Course Theory Test Paper
  • Practical Skills Assessment - Basic Tower Scaffold & Scaffold Inspection

CISRS Accreditation

Successful candidates will receive a CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 Certificate of training.

As long as you have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test within the past 2 years, you can apply for your CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card or CISRS Trainee Scaffolder Card to be updated with an acknowledgement of passing the Scaffolding Part 1 training course.

After 6 months of passing a CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 course and working on site, you can progress onto attending the CISRS Scaffolding Part 2 training course.


CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 training courses are 10 days long.
