Workplace and Construction based NVQs
A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is an ideal way to learn a trade and get the bit of paper that employers want to see. They are a form of flexible learning and can be tailored to fit around your job and your employer’s requirements.
Typically, you train "on the job" although it is possible to attend training centres and colleges that replicate the working environment. As you progress through the course at your own speed you will build up a portfolio of workplace knowledge and achievement that demonstrates your competencies.
No classrooms
Your NVQ assessor will guide you through the course allowing you to work through the material at your own pace. Your classroom is your workshop, construction site or factory floor and, unlike a day release, you don’t need to worry about where you’re supposed to be on a particular day.
You complete the qualification through assessments that can be completed as you cover the material. No exams to revise for or panic about! Your assessor observes you working and you produce evidence that you have obtained the required knowledge for the level you are studying at. NVQs can take you from the basics (level 3) all the way to diploma level (level 7), which for some NVQs can grant you chartered membership of professional bodies.
